Deep in the midst of time, there existed in antiquity, a system, which clearly illustrated the temperament of each human being.
This system was known as the Four Humours. (Humors in American English).
It goes all the way back to the wisdom of the ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamia.
It was famously recorded by Hippocrates, the father of medicine, around 400 BC, from whom we get the Hippocratic Oath, to which Doctors still have to abide to, to this very day. It later got expanded to include corresponding temperaments, which describe the quality of a person's behaviour, and are connected to the four elements.
This ancient knowledge of the Humours was applied right up until the Nineteenth Century, until modern medicine moved away from it.
However, it is unlikely that something that was found to be so useful for Millennia across the world, would be without any value today. Like with so much of the ancient wisdom, we have discarded knowledge, out of both arrogance and ignorance.
We still today talk about someone having a sense of humour, or even that they are good humoured, or bad humoured, but have forgotten what these humours actually are.
These cardinal humours are 'juices' in the body, which determine the emotional state and character of the individual, depending on their different levels. These levels can profoundly effect your general state of health and wellbeing. (well-being)
When you know what these humours are, how they effect you, and why, then you can get a much better understanding of why you sometimes find that you think, feel and even behave irrationally, and out of character.
Knowledge is power, and with this understanding you can gain control of the parts of you that sometimes let emotion get the better of you.
