Draw Your Own Enchanted Forest

In The Enchanted Forest, we'll be creating a magical forest scene. I'll guide you through the process of turning a concept into a fully illustrated cartoon scene, sharing tips and techniques along the way.

We’ll draw characters using simple shapes, making them easy and fun to draw. The style is somewhat kawaii, with charming, adorable features. However, you can add your own flair and creativity to each character, modifying the drawings to suit your unique artistic vision. Let your imagination run wild as we bring our enchanted forest to life with your personal touch and creativity!

What will you learn?

  • How to turn a concept into a fully illustrated cartoon scene

  • Techniques for combining simple shapes to create enchanting forest creatures

  • Tips and tricks for adding magical details and bringing your scene to life

How’s it different?

This class goes beyond step-by-step instructions. I’ll share my approach to each drawing and show you how to play with shapes to design unique characters in the setting. My goal is to give you the skills to create your own enchanted forest scenes using your imagination.

Project Description

We'll start by examining my concept drawing for an enchanted forest. Together, we'll take this idea and expand on it, creating our own unique scene in pen. With each step, I'll guide you through the process of turning the concept into a fully illustrated cartoon scene, sharing tips and techniques along the way. Add your own elements to make the scene uniquely yours.

The project consists of five parts. We begin by sketching out our forest setting. Each subsequent part will show you how to draw different forest creatures. Feel free to change it up, substituting different elements to make your own enchanted forest.

Lessons

Here are the hands-on lessons that will lead you to the final drawing:

  • Sketch the Forest: Set the scene with a whimsical forest background.

  • Paddling Mouse & Bulrush: Create an adventurous mouse on a lily pad visiting a welcoming Bulrush.

  • Unicorn Picnic: Draw a sweet unicorn bringing a picnic to his friends, Rock and Bee.

  • Flower Tea Party: Illustrate a flower happily hosting tea for a dapper Snail.

  • Enchant the Forest: Add a sleepy moon and dancing stars amidst magical mushrooms and friendly grass folk.

What materials do I need?

It's all really basic stuff. This list will get you all set up:

  • Pencil (I like 2B or 3B but any will do)

  • Black fine liner (I use 0.5mm usually)

  • Eraser

  • Sketchbook or printer-size paper

  • Thicker black marker (optional)

We don’t colour in this lesson but of coarse this is a fun one to add colour to. I usually use markers and layer them up for a 3D effect when I colour.
